Supplements, Medications, Detox....What if your body doesn't need another protocol?

Jul 15, 2026

I have been learning more about Dr. Robert Naviaux's work on the Cell Danger Response, and honestly… it has me thinking about health in a completely different way.  I have been applying my new knowledge that I have accumulated since 2021 - circadian rhythm and mitochondria etc.

As many of you know - I have been talking about how we are just cells for decades and in the past few years I've taken an even deeper dive as new research is emerging.

Here's the idea that really stood out to me:

When a cell perceives danger, it changes its behaviour.

It shifts its priorities.

Instead of focusing on growth, repair and normal function, the cell moves into protection and survival mode.

And this makes me wonder…

What if many of us are trying to fix our bodies while our cells are still receiving the message:

DANGER. DANGER. DANGER.

So I want to share a concept that I think is incredibly important.  I'm going to keep this simple as there are 3 phases of the Cell Danger Response..today I touch upon phase 1.

In Phase 1 of the Cell Danger Response, our first job is NOT to detox.  This is what most of us will do and what many practicioners prescribe.

It's not to go on a 7-day cleanse.

It's not to start 15 supplements.

It's not to begin aggressive fasting.

It's not to punish our bodies with more exercise.

Our first job is to create safety.

We need to begin giving our cells a different message:

"You are safe. Resources are available. You can rest. You can repair."

So what does that look like in real life?

🌅 Get morning light.
Step outside and let your body receive the message that it is daytime and the environment is predictable.

😴 Protect your sleep.
A consistent bedtime and wake time matter. Your body should not have to guess whether it is day or night.

🍳 Stop under-eating.
Especially for women who are exhausted, chronically dieting or living on coffee and a protein bar. Your cells need to know that resources are available.

🥩 Eat nourishing, real meals.
Before we worry about fasting windows and metabolic flexibility, let's make sure we are actually nourishing the body with micro nutrients and minerals.

🚶 Move—but don't punish yourself.
Walking, gentle mobility and appropriate strength training can be incredibly supportive. More is not always better.  Join my Vibrant Living Academy  - click here - where I have 1000's of classes that provide cellular safety or join my in-person classes at Move Your Body Studio.

🧘 Create nervous system safety.
Slow breathing. Time in nature. Laughter. Music. Human connection. These are not "fluffy" extras. Your brain and body are constantly communicating.

🌲 Reduce environmental stressors without becoming obsessed.
We can make simple changes to reduce our overall load without buying an expensive detox protocol or becoming terrified of our environment.

And perhaps most importantly…

Stop constantly telling yourself that you are broken.

This one really hit me.

What if your body isn't stupid?

What if your body isn't your enemy?

What if your symptoms are not random?

What if your body has been adapting to the environment and the signals it has been receiving?

The body is not simply a machine with a broken part that needs replacing.

It is a living, intelligent system constantly sensing and responding to its environment.

So before we ask:

"What supplement do I need?"

or

"What protocol should I start?"

Perhaps we should first ask:

"What message am I sending my cells every single day?"

Maybe the first step isn't to make your body work harder.

Maybe the first step is to create an environment that feels more predictable, more nourishing and more safe.

And THEN… we can talk about detox, fasting, hormesis and metabolic flexibility.
