There are certain ages & stages in my life where I need to make some changes before I become a HOT MESS, and right now is one of them and maybe it is for you too.

 

All summer I’ve been wearing loose shorts, skirts and dresses and the other day I put on a pair of my fall pants and whoopsie…just a little tight in the legs, butt and waist.

 

 

RED FLAG!!!

 

 

I know that I’ve been lackadaisical with my habits and we are just a product of our habits, so time for some simple shifts.

 

 

NOTHING DRASTIC

 

 

So, a little side note.  I tend to get calls from women who are PANICKED that they have to lose weight right now (and this used to be me too) and that’s not going to help you. Watch this video.

 

 

I’m also not suggesting that you (or I) have to revamp our entire diet, go keto/vegan/carnivore/paleo, or try intermittent fasting or a crash diet.  There is honestly no magic diet that helps everyone.

 

 

The magic diet is finding the balanced diet that will fuel your changing body for the long-term to support your hormones, muscles, bones, brain, waist etc., and to stop thinking of dieting in terms of weight loss only.

 

 

For some of you that means eating less, but for a surprising number of us, that actually means eating more. For some of you that means eating more balanced meals.

 

BUT, AVOID CUTTING CALORIES TOO QUICKLY

 

 

Cutting calories too much or too quickly triggers a stress response, which slows down your metabolism, which can then lead your body to store fat instead of burning it!  And yes, what I’m saying here is that eating too little can cause you to gain weight.  Mind. Blown. 🤯

 

This is why simple shifts work best. Small changes consistently made over time will give you the results you want.

 

So, maybe you are confused about your portion sizes and how to balance your meals.

The problem with only tracking calories is that you are still missing what a balanced plate should look like for you when it comes to reaching your goals, but it’s definitely a starting point.

Recently, I input data into my Ultimate Calculator and it was super helpful. I’ve made a few simple shifts and feel better already. I did not make any drastic changes.  In fact, here are some of the things I ate over the past week so you can see that I’m not on some kind of crazy radical diet.

 

  1. I tweaked my morning Fat Releasing Smoothie. I was free pouring my nuts and seeds into it and decided to measure them out on day – yup, a little too much free pouring, so now I’m using a tablespoon for some portion control. 

 

  1. I always have a green smoothie during my day. All I did, instead of free pour again, was to measure out the serving.

 

  1. I enjoyed meals of peameal/poached egg/cheese/tomato/onion/avocado; Sheppard’s pie; teriyaki steak & broccoli, cheeseburger & kale salad; BLT.

 

All I did was make some tiny tweaks – I did not start making new recipes – that takes way too much effort.  You can take your diet now, make some balance tweaks and have amazing results.

 

  1. And I still ate chocolate everyday and enjoyed some alcohol on the weekend.

 

Deprivation and willpower are not long-term strategies.  Knowing your numbers, learning to balance your plate and making simple shifts that will last long-term are long-term strategies.
